Great Kills Moravian Church has been serving God on Staten Island for over 125 years, since 1886! Our congregation started as a small church in Great Kills and grew with the community. The Boards decided to move “out of town” in order to expand, and so made the move up the hill to our current location at 62 Hillside Terrace. Before long the town grew around us and we strive to be a blessing to our neighborhood and community.

We are connected to the worldwide Moravian Church, a Protestant denomination that traces its roots to the reform movement initiated by pastor and scholar, John Hus, in the fifteenth century. Followers of Hus established the Church of the Brethren in 1457.

Through 550 years the Moravian Church has focused on sharing the gospel by living the gospel, inviting others to know God and the power of God’s love.

One of the most active ministries within our community of faith is our “Craft Group.” These dedicated women meet Thursday evenings and Friday mornings to create beautiful items to sell at our Annual Christmas Craft Fair—our neighbors line up early in the morning, waiting to be the first in the door!

Beauty in the arts is not the only way this group creates more beauty in God’s world: They are also compassionate, caring women who see into the needs of those around them and “beautify” lives by sharing meals, assisting in other ministries, and taking care of anyone who is hurting.

Each year the Crafters offer classes in creating Pysanky Eggs, the beautifully decorated Easter Eggs that are more familiarly known as “Ukrainian Eggs”.
